Ten years ago I was doing carpentry and kept getting pulled into fence jobs because nobody else on the crew wanted them. Turns out I liked the precision, the way a gate either swings true or it doesn't. I finished an Associate's in Facilities Maintenance at Columbus State a few years in, where carpentry was the trade I leaned into hardest, filling gaps I'd been guessing at on the job. These days I run my install crew. My guides come from callbacks: a post that heaved out of frost-line concrete, a gate hinge nobody sized for the panel's weight.
