Do we sell your personal data?
We do not sell personal data in exchange for money. That said, some U.S. state privacy laws define “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising broadly enough to cover certain data disclosures even when no money changes hands. Whether any tool used on this site falls under those definitions depends on how it’s configured.
We do not knowingly sell personal data to data brokers or share it with third parties for their own unrelated marketing purposes.
5. Data Retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed:
- Newsletter data: up to 12 months after your last activity (unsubscribe or no engagement)
- Contact form submissions: up to 12 months
- Comments: kept indefinitely unless you request removal
- Analytics data: anonymized and stored for 12 months
You may request deletion of your data at any time, see the Contact Us section below.
6. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal data, including security and bot mitigation through our hosting provider. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.
7. Children’s Privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If we learn we’ve collected such data, we’ll delete it.
8. Your U.S. Privacy Rights
A growing number of U.S. states have their own privacy laws, each with different thresholds for who they apply to. We extend the following rights to all U.S. residents as a matter of policy, regardless of which specific law technically applies to us:
- Access: confirm whether we process your personal data, and access it
- Correction: request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Deletion: request deletion of personal data we’ve collected
- Portability: request a copy of your personal data in a portable format
- Opt-out: opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal data, targeted advertising, or profiling used for decisions with legal or similarly significant effects
- Non-discrimination: we won’t deny service, charge different prices, or reduce service quality because you exercised any of these rights
Sensitive data: we will not process sensitive personal data without your opt-in consent, and we do not sell sensitive personal data under any circumstances.
How to exercise your rights: contact us using the details in the Contact Us section below. We’ll verify your identity before fulfilling a request, respond within 45 days (with one 45-day extension where reasonably necessary), and if we decline a request, you may appeal by replying and explaining why, we’ll respond to appeals within 60 days.
9. Additional Rights for California Residents
The California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, gives California residents rights beyond the baseline in Section 8:
- Right to Know: the specific pieces and categories of personal information we’ve collected, where it came from, why we collected it, and who we’ve shared it with
- Right to Correct: request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Right to Delete: request deletion, subject to certain legal exceptions
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: not currently applicable, as we do not sell or share personal information as defined under the CCPA
- Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: not currently applicable, as we do not collect sensitive personal information
- Right to Non-Discrimination: we won’t deny services or change pricing or quality because you exercised a CCPA right
- Right to Designate an Authorized Agent: you may name someone to submit a request on your behalf
To submit a request, see the Contact Us section below.
10. Multi-State Privacy Rights
Residents of certain U.S. states may have additional rights under their own state’s privacy law, including:
- Right to Opt Out of Targeted Advertising and Profiling: already extended to all U.S. residents under Section 8
- Right to Appeal: several states guarantee this; we honor it as described in Section 8
- Universal Opt-Out Recognition: where required by law, we’ll treat a recognized signal (such as Global Privacy Control) as a valid opt-out request. As noted above, we don’t currently sell or share personal data.
This section applies, where the relevant law reaches us, to residents of Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia.
11. Third-Party Links
Our site may contain links to third-party websites or resources. We’re not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or security of those sites, and we recommend reviewing their policies separately.
